Hon. Eric Amoateng's Counsel To Present His Message To Parliament...

Dennis Adjei-Brenyah, the counsel for Hon.Eric Amoateng, the member of parliament for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo region, who currently is standing trial in Brooklyn Federal Court on eight counts of importing heroin with a market value of six million dollars into USA, has appealed to the Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, Hon.Ebenezer Hughes Sekyi-Begenah to hold unto the issue which is before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee till he arrives in Ghana on February 6th 2007 to present his client's message. He added I am desirous to appear before the House.

The learned friend noted in an exclusive interview with the reporter said, "I humble appeal to the Hon. Speaker, Members of Parliament to let me come next week to appear before the august house to deliver a message from Hon. Eric Amoateng, before the house pronounces any judgement on him".

In an answer to a question of the state of his client, lawyer Dennis as he is affectionately called said when he visited Eric Amoateng yesterday (Wednesday, 31st January 2007) at the place of his detention in Brooklyn- New York , he was in high spirit and hopeful that all will be over soon. He added," His client is in high hopes that he will be acquitted and discharged when the narcotic case against him resumes". When quizzed whether it was prudent for the MP to resign?

The counsel's reaction was " The onus lies on the MP to decide either to resign or not". He added, that decision is his sole responsibility since he is not his political adviser. When the reporter pressed home to know the content of the message he is going to present to the Ghanaian Parliament, the legal man just said " The 'Pandora Box' will be opened in parliament".

Meanwhile, Lawyer Dennis is due to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday (February 6th) on board Delta Flight # 166 at 9am local time.
