Road signs vanishing from Accra-Oguaa road

Central Regional Coordinator of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Thomas Bismark Boakye says road signs on the Accra-Cape Coast road are being removed by unknown people leading to accidents.

At a news briefing, he lamented the rising spate of accidents in the region, adding that if nothing was done to check the rate of the stealing, it would worsen the unhealthy road safety situation.

Mr. Boakye alleged that in the Cape Coast municipality for instance, some people remove the road signs and later use them for body works on their vehicles. Others, he said, remove the "no parking" signs in order to park their vehicles at those spots.

"And when you try to apprehend them, they challenge you to prove why they should not park at that place."

On the rate of road accidents, in the region, he said, accidents involving 838 vehicles in which 130 deaths and 756 injuries were recorded last years that of 2005 recorded 182 deaths and 1,470 injuries in accidents involving 1,392 vehicles.
