Police receive maps

Accra, Nov. 17, GNA - Mr Patrick Kwateng Acheampong, Inspector General of Police, on Friday underscored the need for map reading to be inculcated into basic school curriculum to enable pupils to know various locations in the country.

'This will enable us to assist visitors and also help in the combat against crime,' he said when he received 200 copies of the map of Accra and 50 copies of that of Tema published by Surf Publications. The publication has locations of all Police and Fire stations in Accra and Tema.

The IGP said the maps would help the Police to quickly locate crime scenes and enhance their efficiency.

He said such easy location would amount to faster movement of security personnel, ambulances and fire fighting tenders. Mr Didier Compain, Managing Director of Surf Publications, said this was the second edition of the director y, which would assist businesses and visitors in the country.

He said the maps would impress on the public the need to use street names, help security agencies in the control of riots and demonstrations and traffic control, among other things. He appealed to city authorities to endeavour to name streets to facilitate easy location.
