Assemblyman Meets Residents

Huntado (Ash), June 20, - The Amansie East District Assembly has earmarked 80 million cedis to support farmers and women's groups. This is in response to government's directive that part of the district assemblies' common fund be made available to self-employed persons and organised groups to help alleviate poverty in the rural communities. Mr Kojo Osei-Bonsu, Assemblyman for Boni and Huntado announced this at separate forums at Huntado and Boni while briefing the people on the assembly's deliberations at its first meeting of the fourth session at Bekwai. Mr Osei-Bonsu urged the people to embrace the assembly's community sanitation programme under which the assembly pays 60,000 cedis to those who construct ventilated toilets in their houses. He appealed to Hansas Construction Company, currently constructing the four-kilometre Boni-Poano road to remove the debris it has deposited in River Konsee which is the source of drinking water for the people of Huntado. The company should also replace electric poles it has damaged. Nana Kankam Ababio, Krontihene of Denyasi who chaired the function at Boni, urged the people to take active interest in communal labour and warned that defaulters would be dealt with according to the law.
