Listen To The People's Grumbling - Prez

President J. A. Kufuor, on Friday, called on the Bank of Ghana to show a reasonable responsiveness to the legitimate grumbling of the people.

He said though the bank was doing well in the management of the country’s financial sector, the effects of that prudent management were not being felt by the people and so urged the bank to do something about it.

President Kufuor was speaking at the swearing in of Dr. Mahammadu Bawumia as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana at the Castle.

He noted that although the bank has worked hard to stabilize inflation and kept interest rate relatively low, the people of Ghana keep on complaining about not feeling the positive impact of the bank’s measures.

President Kufuor congratulated Dr. Bawumia on his appointment and urged him to be very supportive of his boss.

Dr. Bawumia, in his response thanked the President for the honour done him and assured him that he would perform his duties to the best of his ability.

He said he would work with commitment and support the governor.

In another ceremony President Kufuor presented Letters of Credence to two newly appointed envoys.

They are Mrs. Margaret Ivy Amoakohene, lecturer at the University of Ghana assigned to Canada as High Commissioner and Mr. Richard Oblitei Solomon, a lawyer, Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea.

The President urged them to endeavour to strengthen the relationship between Ghana and the countries where they have been posted.

Before his appointment, Dr. Mahammadu Bawumia was the Head of the Monetary Policy Analysis and Financial Stability Department of the bank.
