Paramedical staff of Oda Govt Hospital on strike

Akyem Oda, June 13, GNA - Nurses and paramedical staff of Akyem Oda Government Hospital on Tuesday joined the nation-wide strike action by their colleagues to back demands for better conditions of service. The situation paralysed health delivery at the hospital and compelled people to transport their sick relatives to Saint Dominic hospital at Akwatia for medical treatment.

When Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Out-Patient Department (OPD) at 1100 hours, the whole place was deserted. At the Pharmacy department, a skeleton staff on duty said they were only attending to patients on admission in the wards.

Mr Gyamfi Boateng, the Hospital Administrator told GNA that the nurses had a message from Koforidua on Monday to join the strike action. He said even though the nine medical doctors at the hospital were at post, the strike action by the nurses and paramedical staff had rendered them redundant.
