Baryey elected Timber Association Chairman

Sunyani, June 3, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Branch of the Ghana Timber Association on Monday, has elected Mr George Baryeh, Managing Director of George Baryeh Timber Company at Goaso as its Chairman. He Polled 27 votes to beat Nana Yeboah Asuamah, incumbent Chairman of the Association, who secured 19 votes out of the 46 valid votes cast at an election conducted and supervised by the officials of the Electoral Commission in Sunyani.

At the close of nomination, no candidate filed for Vice Chairman and Treasurer, compelling the Association to schedule another date for bye-elections.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Baryeh thanked the electorate for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work harder for the growth of the Association.

He appealed to the national hierarchy of the Association to ensure that the regional and district levels of the association rendered accountability to its members to ensure transparency. On his part, the out-going Chairman, who conceded defeat advised the in-coming Chairman to consult him in times of assistance to ensure the rapid growth of the Association.
