Areeba Invests Into Sights And Sounds of Ghana

Scancom Limited, operators of Areeba communication services, has spent over $200,000 to enable Cable News Network (CNN) air Sights and Sounds of Ghana.

The documentary seeks to portray the rich cultural and tourism potentials of the country to the outside world.

The 30-second-footage, which was put together by Global Media Alliance, started airing on May 24 and will end on May 30, 2006.

Launching the footage officially in Accra, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, Miss Bridget Katsriku, said it is a dream-come-true for the ministry because the funds needed to sell the rich tourism sites of Ghana to the entire world has eluded the ministry and the entire country for far too long.

She said Ghana has targeted to attract about one million tourists in 2007 when the country celebrates its golden jubilee, and sustain it thereafter.

Miss Katsriku noted that tourism is a fast growing economic area, which the World Trade Organization (WTO) has predicted would continued to increase as most countries in the world are developing their tourist sites.

She revealed that Ghana, with her rich tourist destinations, has less than 1% out of Africa's 5% of the world tourism market, explaining that our country is not in a competitive mood, tailing behind other African countries.

She said Nigeria, Malaysia, South Africa and India have started marketing their tourism potentials and are reaping benefits from airing their Sights and Sounds on international networks, adding that CNN has a total of about 1billion viewers throughout the world.

The Accountant of Scancom, Mr. Sidique, said the rich tourism sites in Ghana remain in their virgin states and with the Sights and Sounds of Ghana, the world would get know about them.
