Tema Police arrest 28 criminals

Tema, April 01, GNA -- The Tema Regional Police Commander, ACP Daniel Laryea Odai on Saturday called for a programme to educate women, especially those in the middle and low-income group against the dangers in indulging in criminal activities like drugs.

He said women, as element of change in society are perceived to be supportive in all endeavours of life who mould the character of the youth to assume responsive roles but it is disheartening seeing women peddling in drugs.

This, he noted, sends wrong signals to the nation's future and hoped the women activists would take the matter serious and reserve the situation, which is gradually assuming alarming rate among women in Tema.

ACP Odai made the call after leading 92 officers and men in a dawn swoop to arrest 28 criminals including three women with drugs and other items in various notorious hide outs.

He regretted that most times in their operation to clamp down on criminals activities women were among the group. According to him the operation dubbed "sweep all" is intended to rid the region of all criminals activities to enable residents go about their activities without hindrance so it would continue until sanity is brought to the system.

The Commander made a further appeal to religious leaders to also use the pulpit to educate their congregations on the harmful effects of drugs engaging in social vices like drugs ensure a promising future for the nation.

He also appealed to motorists especially; the private ones to give way on seeing police vehicles in convoy as their refusal tend to let the criminals take to their heels on noticing them coming. He said the criminals who were arrested with substance believed to be "Wee', Cocaine and others as well as other implements have been placed in custody for interrogation pending their prosecution on Monday. Most of them were arrested around the Western gate of the Tema main harbour, Community one site two and a farmland at Ashaiman.
