Zoomlion, the leading waste management company in Ghana, has handed over trucks and other equipment to 21 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region at a colorful ceremony at the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council.

The equipment, worth GHC6 million which consist of 15 refuse trucks, 150 tricycles, 84 motorbikes and 55 refuse containers, are expected to improve waste management in the region.

Making the presentation, Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Ernest Kusi stated that sanitation has been a major challenge for MMDAs, hence the need for Zoomlion to partner with MMDAs in order to tackle sanitation.

Mr Kusi said his outfit would partner MMDAs to ensure that every household in the region receives a dust bin to keep the environment clean.

He noted that plans were underway to commence plastic recycling programme to intensify public education on sanitation and also create an awards scheme for the cleanest MMDA.

He appealed to MMDAs to ensure efficient and effective utilization of the equipment and also support the company to change the bad attitude of people towards sanitation.

.
“We are committed to ensuring clean, green and healthy communities in the region,” he added.

Deputy Regional Minister, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, commended Zoomlion for investing in waste management.

Madam Sawyer said the Regional Coordinating Council was ready to collaborate with the company to ensure better environmental health.

She called on MMDAs to ensure regular maintenance of the logistics.

Dean of the MMDAs in the region, Samuel Oppong, thanked Zoomlion for the support and promised to use the equipment judiciously.

This, he said, would help reduce money spent by the government to prevent communicable diseases in the country.
