Young girls' short dresses harass men - nurse

Tema, July 24, GNA - Mrs Judith Essirfi, Principal Nursing Officer of Tema Polyclinic, has advised young girls to dress decently in order not to expose themselves to rape.

She observed that mini dresses worn by young girls are a harassment to men and a contributory factor to rape and defilement now on the increase.

Mrs Essirfi was speaking on "adolescence and reproductive health issues" at a forum organised by the "Humanitarian International", a non-governmental organisation based in Tema for JSS students of Tema Star basic school at the weekend.

Mrs Essirfi, however, ask men not rpt not take advantage of the situation but should try and control their sexual urge in order not rpt not to get into trouble.

She advised young girls to be careful with their lives and avoid things that would lure them into sex and appealed to parents to assist their girls to dress well.

Mrs Essirfi urged them to adhere to personal and environmental cleanliness to promote good health. Speaking on "AIDS", Mrs Felicia Irene Donkor, also a Principal Nursing Officer of the Tema Polyclinic, said the dreadful disease is real and advised them to avoid pre-marital sex.

Mr George Medie, Founder and President of Humanitarian International, said matters affecting the youth should be the collective concern of all since government alone cannot tackle them.

He said his organisation aims, therefore, to support the government by creating awareness of social evils, task ahead of the youth and prepare them to become responsible adults.

This, he said, the organisation has been doing through educational talks in schools and communities.

During question time, the students called for more of such programmes to keep them on track.
