Yendi roads to be rehabilitated

Yendi, May 15, GNA - Work on the rehabilitation of roads in Yendi under a World Bank sponsored Urban Five prorgamme would start in September this year.

The Yendi District Chief Executive, Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan said this when he inspected a 10-kilometre stretch of the Yendi-Tamale road rehabilitated at the cost of five billion cedis. He expressed the government's commitment to provide good, all-weather roads to link all parts of the country to enhance socio-economic development.

The project, which is part of the rehabilitation of the 96-kilometre Yendi-Tamale road, took two years to complete. Another phase stretching 43 kilometres from Sambu to Jimle would be completed in three years.

Alhaji Alhassan commended the contractor for the good work it is doing and asked the communities along the road to co-operate with the workers to ensure uninterrupted work.

The project consultant, Mr Samuel Reynolds Maisen, warned drivers and tractor operators to ensure that they do not damage the road with leaking motor oil from their vehicles and ploughs, which scratch its surface. He also cautioned against over-speeding to minimise accidents.
