Wranglings in Ndc Over ?25m

In the aftermath of the death of Alhaji Kwadwo Maama Adam, the former Brong Ahafo regional chairman of National Democratic Party (NDC), the leadership of the party in the region has been thrown into confusion making the management of the party an uphill task.

The confusion, which is between the constituency executives and regional executives, has prompted the affable regional secretary of the party, Mr. Mohammed Doku, to threaten to resign his position.

Mr. Doku, who was District Chief Executive for Asunafo in the NDC era, has also demanded an investigation into an alleged ?25 million meant for the region, which some constituency executives had accused the regional executive of concealing.

In a petition signed by Doku and issued to the General Secretary of NDC, in Accra, the regional secretary, revealed that the Asutifi North constituency chairman, Mr. Alex Afriyie, had accused both the regional secretary and the regional treasurer, Nana Amankona Nimpong, of keeping with them an amount of ?25 million meant for the party activities.

According to the petition, copied to Chronicle, the behaviour of Mr. Afriyie was a calculated plan to defame, smear and soil the reputation of the two top members of the party in the eyes of all constituency chairmen and secretaries in the region.

Explaining the circumstances surrounding their accusation, Mr. Doku said that before the party's regional executive committee meeting on Saturday October 19, this year at Sunyani, Mr. Afriyie informed the constituency chairmen and secretaries that the two regional executives had collected ?25 million from the party head office in Accra.

Mr. Doku said he got to know about this allegation, when Mr. Yaw Okyere and Mr. Modest Nuworsu, the regional chairman and secretary, respectively of the Asutifi South constituency confronted him to demand their share of the amount.

The NDC secretary said the deputy youth organiser of the party, Mr. Justice Samuel Adjei, witnessed the confrontation by the two constituency executives.

According to Doku, when Mr. Nuworsu and Mr. Okyere were queried about the information, they mentioned Mr. Afriyie as the one who disclosed the arrival of the ?25 million to the regional office to them.

He said Mr. Doku, Nana Nimpong and the two Asutifi South executives approached Mr. Afriyie about the alleged ?25 million and he confirmed the issue and even added he had an evidence to prove his allegation.

The NDC regional secretary, as stated in the petition, described the conduct of Mr. Afriyie as steps taken to damage their integrity and behaviour that would also impact negatively on the command of the regional executives.

Mr. Doku noted that if the allegation is not investigated it would divide the rank and file of the party in the region.
