Who is Lying - Minister of Information or President?

Contradictory statements by the Minister of information and the presidency is making it hard for Ghanaians to phantom the purpose of the Grand Order of The Star and Eagles of Ghana award.

According to the Information and National Orientation Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, ”the Grand Order of the Stars and Eagle is NOT only for Ghanaian presidents but also heads of state of other nations that Ghana may find deserving of the highest national award.”

His words appear to contradict earlier statements from The Office of the President that ”only those who legitimately attain the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana ” are entitled to this award.

Even though President Kufuor stated that the Award of Grand Order of THE STAR AND EAGLE OF GHANA division was for him and ex President Jerry Rawlings alone, documentation has revealed that he ordered as many as 5 medals.

From The Office of the President

President John Agyekum Kufuor has, in accordance with the National Honours Warrant of the Ghana (1960), instituted a new National Award - The Grand Order of The Star and Eagles of Ghana, to be the highest State Award. A statement signed by Mr. Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to the President and Presidential Spokesman said only those who legitimately attain the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana are entitled to this award. It said in this regard, the two persons who currently qualify for this award are President John Agyekum Kufuor and former President Jerry John Rawlings.
