What a ‘deaf wedding' looks like – Ghanaian couple show the way

Mary and Eric, both deaf, are hoping to inspire the world with their love story play videoMary and Eric, both deaf, are hoping to inspire the world with their love story

“I promised to love you and I’ve honored my promise by marrying you”, love-struck Eric’s words to his wife Mary on their wedding day.

The two, both deaf, will not be dissuaded by their special needs. To them, it is only a hurdle, one that can be jumped over and that they did!

After years of courtship, Eric decided to make things official, certify his commitment to Mary and through that, inspire other deaf persons to believe in love.

At an inclusive wedding ceremony at the Church of Christ at Circle in Accra, the two got wedded.
A very unique, romantic and very inspirational it was, with the choir which comprised the deaf, entertaining and spicing up the event in their own way.

“I taught her, but at the time, we weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend. It was after that that she visited the church one time and after the message I preached, she congratulated me, we spoke and became friends. After some time, I proposed to her and she accepted and today, we are married”, and excited Eric said in an interaction with TV3.

An emotional Mary who burst out after declaration of Eric’s vows also said,
“Eric is so special to me that is why he proposed and I accepted, I don’t need other men”.

Sam Williams, Pastor at the Church of Christ explained in the video sighted by www.ghanaweb.com, that the union was one of many other similar ones officiated by the church to encourage deaf persons to pursue their dreams and love.
