We’ve no plans to monitor your calls – Interior Ministry

The Ministry for the Interior is urging the general public to disregard a news item which has gone viral on social media alerting the citizenry to take note of a new Communication Regulation which will be enforced by the Ministry.

The said regulation, according to the news item, entails the surveillance of calls and activities on social media platforms.

The Ministry of the Interior has come under severe criticisms from a cross section of the public for allegedly trying to tap into the communication devices of the citizenry with the aim to monitor their conversations following a news item that has gone viral social media to that effect.

But the Ministry in a statement signed by its Chief Director, Mrs. Adelaide Anno-Kumi and dated April 10, 2017, described the said publication as false, urging the general public to give it the contempt that it deserves.

“The Ministry wishes to emphatically state that there is no such new Communication Regulation. We want to assure that the general public that no one’s communication device, be it mobile hand device, Personal Computer among others is connected to any system at the Ministry of the Interior.”

“In as much as the safety, peace and security of citizens is our primary concern, we will not do anything tantamount to the invasion of the privacy of citizenry and an affront on the respect of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry. The Ministry therefore, wishes to state emphatically and unambiguously that, the news item is false and should be disregarded by the general public,” a statement in part read.
