We should possess the ball - Arhinful

Augustine Arhinful has advised the Black Stars to map up a strategy that will enable the team to keep possession, rather than over emphasizing on long balls that have been proving unproductive to the team.

Ghana defeated Comoros Island 2-0 on Tuesday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi in the 2 leg of the final knockout stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Although, the 2-0 aggregate score has seen the Black Stars reach the group phase of the World Cup qualifiers, many Ghanaians were not happy with the work rate of the team, especially against a weaker opposition.

And Augustine Arhinful, who was equally not satisfied with how the team played against Comoros Island has added his voice by cautioning the Black Stars to refrain from concentration on long passes that haven’t worked successfully for the team so far.

“What I saw from our game against Comoros in Kumasi was that we deployed to long balls and that made us to easily lose possession.

“We should be able to hold on to the ball and this will force our opponents to chase us and in this case we will be able to find space," he told Hot FM. Ghana will be seeded alongside other powerhouses of African football ahead of the draw for the group stage of the qualifiers.
