We’ll fight EC’s rigging scheme - NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of orchestrating a grand scheme to frustrate its bid to win the December polls and by so doing steal the people’s verdict in the upcoming 7 December polls.

According to the party’s Director of Elections, Martin Agyei-Mensah Korsah, the commission has failed to heed the party’s request for the list of voters who are to take part in the proxy and special voting exercise.

At a media briefing in Accra on Monday, 7 November, Mr Korsah also indicated the party’s resolve to protect the ballots to prevent any form of rigging.

“We will not allow the EC to side step its own rules and regulations and deny the people of Ghana credible elections. This election will not be rigged, this election will not be stolen, we will protect it and make sure the will of Ghanaians prevails. If anybody is not ready to commit to this, then that is their own problem but we will not allow the verdict to be stolen once again and that is why we are raising these concerns,” he stated.

“The commission must give us our complete register now. We need it with all the accompanying list so we can move on because we are more than convinced it is deliberate, it is meant to frustrate us, you can’t explain why. …Check from the Electoral Commission’s district offices, everybody has it, why is the NPP not given?” he wondered.

Mr Korsah further reiterated that: “We know it’s deliberate but it is better that we make our case to the Ghanaian people. We are reviewing this situation every minute and when we come to a conclusion, we will let you know, but trust us, we are not going to let this continue anymore. You have special voter’s election just approaching on 1 December and we cannot even have the register to compare with this and be sure that whoever is supposed to be on the special voter’s list is indeed there…”
