Wayo’s party clears first hurdle

The National Renaissance Party (NRP) has been granted an interim certificate by the Electoral Commission to operate as a political party, with a 30-day grace period to satisfy other requirements.

The leader and chairman of the party, Kofi Wayo said he dedicated the initial breakthrough to the press and the ordinary selfless Ghanaian who fought for freedom and justice in the country.

He said the ideology of the party was “Mercy for the Poor”, and the party would do all in its power to bring both economic and political freedom to all Ghanaians.

“All men are created equal and I will make sure they are treated as such,” he declared.

Chuck, as he is popularly known, described the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party regimes as those that have contributed negatively to the development of the country.

“The NDC failed to use me and so did the NPP after spending my money for them to be elected into power,” he revealed, adding that this had compelled him to set up the new political party.

Mr Wayo said his party would change the system by building the needed infrastructure for the average Ghanaian to take advantage of, and stressed, “We are going to raise the standard of the poor. We would not care about NPP and NDC when we create jobs for the people”.

He denied media reports that he was the sole controller of the party and pointed out that it could be one of the most democratic in the country.

Touching on the media, the maverick said if his party got elected into power, his government would finance the media by granting various media houses and journalists loans to help them perform their duties responsibly.

He noted that the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times would be privatized as government had no business handling the media.

The general secretary of the party, Alhassan Saeed, said the party is coming out with a new breed of young politicians who are dedicated to bring self reliant.
