A form two student of the Presbyterian Junior High School in Wa, in the Upper West region has been subjected to a severe torture by the school’s mathematics teacher only named as Ahmed. The torture has left the student with major cuts on his knees after he was made to kneel on his knees while crawling on the ground at the same time receiving strokes on his back by the said mathematics teacher.

The student, (name withheld) narrating his ordeal to www.myradiowaa.com indicated that, the incident took place at about 12pm Wednesday, October 31, 2018 after he was trying to close a window where the sun was reflecting on him and the mathematics teacher who was sitting outside called him out and made him to go on his kneels while crawling.

“It was this afternoon around 12pm when I was closing a window by my desk because the sun was reflecting inside the classroom, Mr. Ahmed saw me from outside and called me out and said i was making noise and made me kneel down while crawling, he was also caning me at the same time. Some of my colleagues who were also captured as ‘talkatives’ in class were also made to do same, my cuts are a bit major than theirs but they also have bruises on their knees” he said.

The Victim was issued a police medical form to seek for medical attention at the Wa/Upper West regional hospital after the victim with the support of his friends went to the health facility and they were asked to go for police medical form before they can attend to him.

Meanwhile, checks done by www.myradiowaa.com reveals that, the mathematics teacher and the assistant head teacher of the school were invited to the regional police command Thursday morning for their statements and the police has since commenced investigation into the matter.

However, in an interview with Mr. Gaazienye parent of the victim on radio waa’s yelkaabahe this evening, he revealed that, the assistant headmaster of the school yesterday threatened him and the student and quizzed why they reported the case to the police without referring it to the school authority.

He added that, the school authority has asked him to withdraw the case from the police station or the child will suffer the consequences.
The school authority when contacted by Radio Waa 92.1FM vehemently declined to comment on the matter. The act has been condemned by several teachers and health workers who were at the hospital during the dressing of the wounds. The Wa Municipal Education Office is yet to respond to the issue.
