W/R NPP appeals for retention of Regional Minister

Sekondi, May 06, GNA - Mr Padmore Yonkopa Arthur, the Western Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to the President not to drop the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, as he reshuffle his cabinet.

He said Mr Aidoo had initiated several development programmes and introduced several schemes to motivate workers in the region to give off their best.

Mr Arthur, who was speaking to some journalists at Sekondi on Friday, cited the "Nkabom Afahye", the Cocoa Farmers Housing Scheme, An Education Trust Fund and the Nurses Awards Day as some of the innovations of Mr Aidoo.

He appealed to the President to disregard the 'chieftaincy letters' that nearly marred the vetting of Mr Aidoo in 2004 and said such letters were meant to tarnish the Regional Minister's image, sabotage his efforts and discredit him before the President.

Mr Arthur appealed to President Kufuor to allow the Regional Minister to continue to "unearth the several opportunities in the region for the good of the people".
