Vomiting, stomach pains hit Archbishop Porter Girls

Kojokrom (W/R), Feb. 11, GNA - A team of medical personnel has been stationed at the Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School at Fijai to contain vomiting and stomach pains being suffered by some of the students= .. The team includes Dr kwaku Annin Karikari, Deputy Western Regional Director of Health in-charge of Public Health and Dr Teddy Avotri, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of Health.

Speaking to the press during a visit to the school on Thursday, Dr Karikari said some 100 students of the school were taken to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and the Essiakdo Hospital for vomiting an= d stomach pains on Tuesday evening and most of them were treated and discharged. He said 10 of the students were admitted and that the cause of the outbreak was not known but tests were been carried out on water and food taken by the students. Dr Karikari said the situation was under control but expressed worry=

that some of the sick students were not taking their medication unless th= ey were forced.

Ms Louisa Constance Aggrey, the Headmistress of the School, denied me= dia reports that four of the students had died.

She said there would be no classes on Thursday to enable the student= s to undertake massive clean-up at the school. Parents and guardians are rushing to the school to find out the condit= ion of their children and were assured by the school's authorities that there=

was no cause for alarm.
