Entrepreneurs and persons intending to venture into entrepreneurship in the Volta Region have started benefitting from a six-month free mentorship and training programme to build their capacity.

The training programme, which being done in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital, is christened ‘Mentorship for Business Success (MBS)’ and is expected to stimulate the birth of new businesses, guide existing ones, grow young ones and sustain growing ones.

The programme was initiated by Mr. Rockson Kwesi Dogbegah -- the Founder and Chairman of Berock Ventures Limited (BVL), the leading indigenous building construction firm in Ghana.

Giving a presentation on the ‘Concept of Success’ at the second session of the training programme, Mr. Dogbegah noted that companies are failing because there are failing to plan, monitor and evaluate, regard customers; and failing to be disciplined and interdependent.

He said the issue of indiscipline has become so endemic in the country that it is crippling the entire national economy and most indigenous businesses with it.

Mr. Dogbegah who is the Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Africa, added that the country and businesses within it lack good corporate governance, focus, determination, best practices, continuous commitment to improvement, and appreciation of customer centrality, excellence and quality.

In the course of the six months, subjects to be treated include: Understanding the Pillars of Success, Mindset Transformation and Change Leaders; Road Map to Developing the Culture of Success and Corporate Strategy.

The rest are Building Capacity for Sustainable Business Expansion; Business Monitoring and Progress Evaluation; and Applying Learning Outcomes.

The mentorship programme is also meant to facilitate networking, mentorship and sharing experiences, and learning from best practices. Other renowned business leaders in the country will also make presentations at further sessions.

Participants at the programme included real estate developers, accountants, farmers, furniture-makers, doctors, journalists among others.

They expressed excitement for the training and prayed that there is going to more of such in the region to build capacity and grow world-class businesses that transform the region and the country.
