Otumfuo@25: When Ga Mashie ‘took over’ Asanteman

Ghana's rich culture was once again on display at the fourth Akwasidae of 2024, which was held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace at Kumasi, as part of the silver jubilee celebration of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The occasion, celebrated to commemorate the time the Golden Stool of Asanteman was magically brought down from heaven, saw the sacred stool itself put on display, placed next to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, amid the traditions and cultures of the Akan people.

Perhaps, one of the most captivating moments at the event was the arrival of the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who was on a special quest at the fourth Akwasidae, and his entourage.

The perceived rivalry between the Gas and Asantes was, however, nowhere to be found, as the Ga Mantse and his people took to the streets of Kumasi leading to the grounds for the Akwasidae.

Even before the arrival of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Asafoatsemei, the traditional Ga military officials took to the streets of Kumasi, chanting and firing gunshots in the air.

Then came the arrival of the king, his chiefs, and his subjects to the grounds of the celebrations.

Videos shared by Ablade TV Online and GTV showed the rich cultural displays of the Ga people at the Akwasidae.

The Ga Mantse led his sub-chiefs, priests, and priestesses of the Ga Kingdom to the grounds of the celebration.

A very long queue of men and women dressed in white apparel with their faces painted white could also be seen holding gifts reportedly meant for the Asantehene.
