Vice-President launches Book at Wa

WA, June 2, GNA - Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Sunday launched a book written by Mr. George Hikah Benson, the Upper West Regional Minister at a brief ceremony at Wa.

The 111-page novel titled; "Child of Death," which has been dedicated to orphans depicts the experiences, achievements and turmoil of people, who lost both parents during their tender years. As an orphan himself, who lost his father at the age of ten, Mr Benson said he started writing the book when he was a form one student in secondary school as a way of sharing his experiences following the death of his father.

According to him his father also lost his father at a very early age, thereby starting the cycle of tragedy within the family. He said the proceeds from the sale of the book would go to the First Lady, Madam Thersa Kufuor's Foundation.

Vice President Mahama, who was on a three-day visit to the region during which he joined the people to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the region urged those who had similar experiences to share and document them to serve as a guide for future generations. He commended the author for devoting the book to orphans because they are a marginalized group that deserved the attention of society. Alhaji Aliu Mahama praised the Regional Minister for writing the novel saying it was not easy for people in public life to have time to sit down and write books.

The first five copies of the book were auctioned for 5,900 Ghana cedis.
