Veep lauds Huawei for promoting ICT in Ghana

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has lauded Huawei Technologies Limited for promoting ICT development in Ghana, as well as the opportunity for many Ghanaians to explore the possibilities in ICT.

He however charged the company to help the country modernise its under-developed telecommunication infrastructure.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the commendation when he cut the tape to inaugurate the new Headquarters Building of Huawei Technologies Limited at Cantonment, Accra.

The ultra-modern office is expected to accommodate all of Huawei operations across the country and to make it business hub on the African continent.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur noted that the inauguration of the Headquarters Building is a further expression of the deepening relations between Ghana and China.

He said the revolution in ICT presents the country with the opportunity to harness its diverse innovations in developing the human resource to help accelerate Ghana’s development.

He said the country cannot cope with the opportunities advances in ICT provide, if the nation do not develop the capability of the youth in that area.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated government’s support to the roll out ICT infrastructure in schools.

He said the move is necessary because the future leaders of the country have to be equipped with the relevant skills to be able to take full advantage of the enormous opportunities that ICT provides.

He said the growth of the social media and data penetration in Ghana has been phenomenal and impressive.

He expressed the hope that the development of the social media would continue to allow people and companies to create, share and exchange data.

Mr Eugene Baffoe Bonnie, Chairman of the National Communication Authority (NCA) commended Huawei Technologies for its continuous investment in the country’s telecom sector.

He charged the company to be proactive in its service delivery and to use the vast research and development facilities of the parent company to improve the services that it provides to the network operators.

Ms Sun Baohong, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana stated that the construction of the new Headquarters Building of Huawei shows the determination of the company to make Ghana its business hub on the African continent.

She said the company since its inception in Ghana in 2001 has made tremendous contribution to the development of telecommunications and ICT in the country.

She said Huawei is just one of the many Chinese enterprises that have made remarkable contributions to Ghana’s economic development, social progress and improvement in people’s livelihood.

She said the Chinese companies’ carryout extensive and mutual beneficial programmes with Ghana, employing local people, embarking on technology transfer and human resource development.
