Ursula gets bail

The case involving the arrest and subsequent prosecution of the driver of staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, Ursula Owusu, has been adjourned to November 16th.

Madam Ursula Owusu’s driver was arrested on Tuesday, November 2 on the Amasaman road for over-speeding and driving without license and processed for court the next day.

The gender advocate and legal practitioner, who was not at the wheels at the time of incident, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court together with the driver, ostensibly to lend her support.

The driver pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in a sum of GH¢ 500 and asked to reappear before court on 16th November, 2010.

It would be recalled that the Vice-President of FIDA Int. was stopped by personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Division at Amasaman, a suburb on the outskirts of Accra, for allegedly violating a road traffic regulation.

She was on her way to Akim Oda, in the Eastern Region.

Ursula, who confirmed the incident to Peace FM News, narrated that the MTTU officials asked her driver to produce his Driving License and other particulars, but she replied that the documents were not readily available since "they are always kept at home because of how unsafe road travel has become."

She however, indicated her readiness to produce all the required documents within 24hours as stipulated under the Road Traffic Act, but the police stridently refused.
