Two goat hunters jailed for stealing

Accra, Feb.24, GNA - Two goat hunters who went on a stealing spree at Kasoa were on Tuesday sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour each by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Issifu Ibrahim and Alhassan Aziz, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and stealing, and the court sat over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu convicted them on their own plea.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Boison told the court that the complainant is a taxi driver, while the accused persons were unemployed and resided at Accra Newtown.

On February 22 Ibrahim and Aziz hired a taxi to Kasoa in the Central Region. On their way, the convicts asked the taxi driver to stop at a point.

Prosecution said the convicts came out of the car and poured a quantity of maize on the ground and suddenly a huge male goat came out to feed on it.

Prosecution said Ibrahim hit the goat's head with his hand and it fell unconscious.

They then carried the booty to Mallam Attah market where it was sold for 120,000 cedis.

Inspector Boison said the convicts convinced the taxi driver to take them back to Kasoa for another operation.

On their way the taxi driver told them that he wanted to pick something from the house but sneaked to the Railway Police Station to report and Ibrahim and Aziz were arrested.
