Trouble in Northern Region ACDR

Tension is mounting in the Association of the Committee for the Defence of the Revolution (ACDR) in the Northern region of Ghana over the election of new officers.

This has divided the ranks between the supporters of Mr Sam Garbah and Nii Boye Sekan, both former presidential staffers in charge of the ACDR. Briefing the GNA in Tamale, Mr Saha-naa Abdul-Latif, a cadre, said the election held behind closed doors was disrupted by one of the factions, because it was not supervised by the electoral commission.

Abdul-Latif said the problem is degenerating along ethnic lines and if immediate measures were not taken to resolve the impasse it would affect the cadres' role in the NDC (ruling National Democratic Congress) campaign in the region as the nation goes to the polls on December 7. He suggested the formation of a regional task force similar to the one created by President Rawlings to see to the smooth running of the association in the region.

Abdul-Latif called for a probe into the activities of the ACDR in the region saying, "we cannot be preaching accountability when we do not want to be accountable."
