Transparency alone can’t solve Ghana’s oil issues – Minister

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Ms Mona Quartey says transparency alone cannot guarantee sound management of the extractive resources of the country.

She’s called for the strengthening of the link between transparency, accountability and the overall development of the country.

She urged parliament to do more in monitoring the collection and the use of the revenue from the industry by passing the right laws and ensuring that all agreements approved were mutually beneficial to the country and the investors.

Ms Quartey was speaking at the opening of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Dissemination Workshop for Parliamentarians in Koforidua.

Dr Steve Manteaw of ISODEC, who was also present at the workshop called for determined efforts to manage public expectation of Ghana’s oil revenue.
