There has been no attack on Professor Mills

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA - There has been no incident involving the Former Vice President Professor John Evans Atta Mills apart from the accident his convoy nearly had during his visit to Hohoe in the Volta Region on Saturday.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency about reports in a section of the media that he had been attacked; Professor Mills, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flag Bearer for the 2004 Elections, said there had been no such incident apart from what happened in Hohoe.

Meanwhile, the Acting Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area Togbui Buami VIII has called a meeting to ease the tension between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the disturbances, which occurred during the visit of Professor Mills.

The Executives of the Convention People's Party (CPP), NDC, and New Patriotic Party (NPP) attended the meeting.

Togbui Buami reminded political parties operating in the area of the problems their forefathers went through during the First Republic and urged them to unite and gear their efforts towards development. "Our forefathers were forced to go into self-exile in the Republic of Togo, some died there and never returned during the CPP regime".

Togbui Buami, therefore, asked political parties in the area to learn to tolerate each other and not to disturb the chiefs and people of the traditional area with problems that would draw the name of the area into disgrace.

Referring to the reckless driving of a motorist, who drove a double-cabin pickup to cross Professor Mills' convoy last Saturday, the Acting Paramount Chief said the action of the driver cast a slur on the traditional area and expressed the hope that such an incident would not happen again.

He advised political parties that had problems with others to contact traditional rulers to help resolve them, adding, that they should not engage in verbal or physical confrontations.

Togbui Buami also advised supporters of political parties to learn to comport themselves during political rallies of their opponents. Present at the meeting were the Hohoe North Constituency Executives of the NDC, led by its Chairman, Fernard Bansah and NPP Executives led by Mr Raphael Egbenuya. Mr Linus Fianyo, Constituency Organiser, led the CPP team.
