The budget 'actuals' are not actually actuals - Osafo-Maafo

Finance Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, will surely regret the day his Information Minister, Nana Akomea decided to take the Leadership of the NUGS on headlong on the GETFund, when it was started, how much the NDC paid into the fund among others. It said a meeting that was finally held last week between the Finance Minister, the head of the VAT Secretariat and the NUGs, clearly shows that Nana Akomea lied when he told news men that the deductions started in June 2000 when the others said the VAT deductions started in September 2000.

Four tables given by the PALAVAR in addition to its explanation indicated that the Government is keeping two sets of national accounts as far as the VAT and GETFund accounts are concerned “Actual” (or true) accounts are with the VAT Secretariat and “Cooked”, (or fraudulent) account are submitted to parliament and to the IMF and World Bank.

This means that the Government has been lying to the IMF and the World Bank and getting them to agree to programmes on the basis of falsehood.

The PALAVAR says this is serious and warrants a Parliamentary investigation which Hon. Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader must commence immediately.
