Terrorism: Ghana not ready to foil attacks - Irbard

Ghana’s security agencies are not ready to foil possible terrorist attacks in the country, security analyst Ibrahim Irbard has said.

His observation comes on the back of recent attacks in the Ivory Coast and Turkey.

On Sunday March 13, unidentified gunmen killed at least five people at a beach resort in southern Ivory Coast.

The assailants fired on beach-goers in the town of Grand Bassam, about 40km (25 miles) east of the country's commercial capital, Abidjan.

In Turkey, on the same day, 34 people were killed after a car bomb exploded in the capital, Ankara, wounding 125 others.

Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS), Irbard said Ghana was not ready to protect citizens from terror attacks.

“I don’t see our security agencies ready to fend off any mass casualty event taking place on the streets of Accra,” insisted the security analyst.

“For Ghana, regardless of the anti-terrorism experts we have...if we are on the radar of any terrorist organisation, I don’t think we will have the wherewithal to forestall any such attack,” he said.
