Tema Mantse Lauds Kuffuor Gov't

NII ADJEI Kraku II, Tema Mantse, has observed that the decision of the traditional authority to release lands for the establishment of Tema as an industrial city has not been adequately reciprocated by successive governments and applauded the NPP government's positive change, which has seen a son of the soil, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey, MP for Tema East, serving as a minister of state for fisheries.

He made this observation last Saturday in his capacity as chairman at the commissioning of the ?52 million Tema Manheam post office, constructed from part of the MPs common fund.

Nii Kraku II lamented over lack of infrastructural development at Tema Manheam and Kpone, although there are many development programmes being undertaken by the Tema Municipal Assembly in Tema and Ashaiman.

He appealed to TMA to provide the two townships with some of the development programmes to benefit their citizens.

Hon. Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, in his key note address, stated that positive change can only bear practical results when every Ghanaian makes a conscious effort to improve upon his or her area of operation no matter how humble.

He noted that the co-ordinated result of such little achievements can be very significant; saying: "Positive change means every Ghanaian should he proactive in whatever sphere one may find oneself."

Hon. Quaye appealed to chiefs to always keep in mind that as custodians of the stool lands inherited from ancestors, they have a duty to protect them for future generations.

"Chiefs as agents for development must endeavour to make land available to district assemblies for the construction of schools, clinics, markets, toilets and other development projects that will benefit the community as a whole," Hon. Quaye advised.

The Deputy Minister of Communications and Technology, Hon. J.S. Achuliwor, on his part, noted that apart from the unique role that the post office plays in our individual lives and in the development of any country, it also acts as a bridge of friendship among nations and individuals.

He said his ministry attaches great importance to the extension of postal services to every corner of the country, especially to the rural areas.

Hon. Ashietey, in his welcome, address stated that the decision to build the post office is the result of determination to modernise the old container being used as a post office.

According to him, it was clear that that structure was not befitting the people of Tema Manheam, especially in this modern information age.

He stated that he decided to use part of his MPs common fund for this new structure to enable the people of Tema Manheam to be abreast with time and also generate funds for other projects in the community.
