Takoradi Boy, 14, found on death ship

The stowaway found on board a ship which had docked in Hull is a 14-year-old boy, police have revealed. Officers searching the ship at Alexandra Docks had also found the badly decomposed bodies of two men in the vessel's hold.

The boy was found aboard the Cecdelta, which was carrying nuts from Takoradi in Ghana.

Officers say the boy had no idea there were other stowaways on board when he was discovered by the crew.

Locker room

The dead men were found on the ship when it docked at Euro terminal 2 in the port on Thursday.

The boy, from Takoradi, had been found in a locker room by the crew three days into the voyage.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "The boy will be placed into the hands of the Immigration Authorities shortly.

"The ship is no longer a 'scene of crime' and the deaths are not being treated as suspicious

Isle of Man flag

"Police will be seeking fingerprint evidence and hope to liaise with Interpol to establish their identities via the Ghana authorities. This could be a lengthy process."

The ship was sailing under the flag of the Isle of Man.

Humberside Police say the two dead men were not crew and it was unclear where they had boarded the ship.

Emergency services had to wait at the scene for more than two hours for safety reasons before recovering the bodies at about 1615 GMT on Thursday.
