TDC Boss, Assistant To Face Court Action

A group of Community 10 residents of Tema, opposite the SOS Village, led by Dr. Degraft Johnson, an electrical engineer, have threatened to drag the Managing Director of TDC, Mr. Ebenezer Aryee- Bonte, and his special co-ordinator, Col. J. L. Toppar to court for selling a parcel of Greenbelt land, 200 yards away from the SOS Village.

Also being dragged to court is Supervising High Court Judge A. A. Akwei, who bought the land.

Chronicle investigations have revealed that Dr. Degraft Johnson and some concerned residents have vowed to fiercely resist any attempt by anybody to build on the Greenbelt which has been reserved and also carries under it the area's sewerage system.

Meanwhile, the group is being confronted with two major issues. First is that the presiding High Court Judge, Justice A. A. Akwei, cannot sit on the case.

Neither will Mrs. Amoah, another high court judge who works under Justice Akwei, be interested to try his boss.

Another nagging fact is that Tema-based lawyers may not show any interest in the matter since it involves the high court judge. Chronicle, however, learnt from a reliable source that the group have decided to write to the Chief Justice for his direction.

Commenting, Mr. Ayi-Bonte flatly denied that the area formed part of Greenbelts dotted in the city.

It is an old road which formerly linked the Sakumono main trunk road. He explained that there were plans to reconstruct the road for the Ramsar project at Sakumono and the preservation of birds but the project was abandoned.

Mr. Ayi-Bonte revealed that Dr. Degraft Johnson, who is that protagonist whose house is just near the area, had earlier attempted to acquire the area but TDC turned down his request. He said that Dr.

Degraft apart from this building at Community 10 owned three different plots.

Mr. Ayi-Bonte said if Dr. Degraft Johnson knows that the area is on the Greenbelt why should he put two containers there, adding "the High Court Judge is a citizen of this country who must be accorded the same recognition given to Dr. Degraft Johnson".
