TAMALE TRIBUNAL GRANTS BAIL TO RIOTERS

The Tamale Circuit Tribunal has granted bail to forty-one persons, who appeared before it charged with conspiracy, rioting and unlawful damage. The accused persons all residents of Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, were arraigned before the tribunal for allegedly eracting a road block at a strategic junction between Nalerigu and Gambaga to prevent the people there from entering Nalerigu to trade. Police were deployed in the area to defuse the mounting tension, but the people, numbering more that 500, over-powered the police. Later, a Police re-enforcement and Military personnel were deployed to effect their arrest, but the accused persons fired missiles at them, resulting in the damage of the side glass of a police vehicle. In its ruling, the tribunal, presided over by Mr. Stephen Tei, said it was inclined to grant bail to the accused persons, because they are minors and students and also because peace has returned to the area. Inhabitants of the two towns have been feuding over the sitting of a District Assembly Office a Complex. gri
