Sun Newspaper Sued ¢5bn

• For Defaming Airport Security Guru

A pro-NPP propaganda outlet, The Sun newspaper is being sued today 17th May, 2011 ¢5billion for defaming an airport security chief.

The paper as part of its sinister agenda has been running series of publications on Mr. Solomon Adelaquaye, Managing Director of Sohin Security Checks Ltd claiming he has defrauded an American investor to the tune of US$ 47,000. In its yesterday edition, The Sun claimed that Mr. Adelaquaye used a magic ring to cast a spell on the supposed American investor.

“We are suing their ass for such a scurrilous lie. They have not even produced any shred of evidence to back their claim,” lawyers of Mr. Adelaquaye said yesterday.

They added, “The Sun and their editors would have to meet us in court squarely to substantiate their allegations.”

In its yesterday’s edition, the paper reported in part, “Also starring in the duping controversy is a said gold magic ring, whose spiritual potency actually played an indispensable role in casting a supposed spell on the American businessman, while he doled out thousands of dollars at the instance of the private security capo.”

The Sun’s report headlined “AIRPORT SECURITY CHIEF DUPES U.S INVESTOR (II), also read in another paragraph;

“THE SUN’S spotlight team can report that among the gold sample Adelaquaye sent to USA was a gold ring believed to have magical powers. According to information available to THE SUN, Mr. David become vulnerable after using the ring and started wiring thousands of dollars to Adelaquaye for the payment of gold while refusing to heed to advice from associates.”

The Lawyers said the two paragraphs were highly libelous and the authors have to pay for it according to law.

They have therefore decided to demand general damages to the tune of GH¢500,000 (5 billion old cedis).

The lawyers, who are also not enthused with no attempt by the paper to seek Mr. Adelaquaye’s side of the story before publication, said they will also demand punitive and aggravated damages from the publishers of The Sun and a perpetual injunction to restrain them from further publishing defamatory matter about Mr. Adelaquaye.

The Sun, an NPP propaganda mouth-peace is one of the outlets of the opposition. It is only a two-sheet newspaper which comes out once week. It has been in hibernation for so many years until the publishers resurrected it this year, ostensibly to join the political season to throw mud.
