Students urged to prepared their minds for ICT skills

Mrs Dorothy Gordon, Director General of Ghana–Indian Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology, on Friday urged students to prepare their minds with ICT skills to compete in the global market.

She said since technology had taken the world, it would be appropriate for students to begin now with ICT to mould them in the field.

Mrs Gordon made the call when addressing students from Senior High Schools at the opening day on ICT in Accra.

It was to challenge the youth to be abreast with the technology in Ghana.

The students were from Ola Girls, Accra Girls, Labone SDA, PRESEC Osu, PRESEC Legon, Dansis SHS, Multikids Accra, Ave Maria, Ghana Lebanon Islamic School, Saint Mary and O’Reily SHS.

The programme included career counseling, movies on technology, robotic display and showcase of students' projects.

Mrs Gordon noted that Ghana is like other countries where technology had offered the opportunity to develop and excel in their economies and other challenges but it would be better if the same application was adopted to change her status.

“Technology is the future and the earlier we get involved the better and we can do so when we start thinking about what can be done with ICT,” Mrs Gordon said.

She said the students must have command over ICT to enable them develop the passion whereever they might be in the world and choosing a career involving ICT.

Mrs Gordon stated that one important thing Ghana could be best in the global market was to involve students in ICT to make a difference.

She encouraged the students to embrace ICT and take their studies serious to ensure a better future.

Dr Yaw Okraku-Yirenkyi, Coordinator for the programme said the students should make it a point to have best knowledge on ICT to help shape their future.

“There is something you can add to your life by ICT that can make a huge change in the generation and the world,” he added.

He called on students to be serious in their career in ICT since it would be supportive to other ambitions.
