Students asked to make good use of their time

Accra, March 30, GNA - Mr Kwasi Abeasi, Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), on Tuesday asked students of the private universities to make good use of their time to enable them to fully benefit from the investment being made in their education. He said: "I have no doubt that you have to make extra efforts by way of financing to ensure that you get university education. This should compel you to make the fullest use of your time not just to pass your exams but also to acquire total education."

Mr Abeasi said this at the inauguration of Private University Student's Association of Ghana (PUSAG) in Accra. The Association is made up of six private universities; the Valley View University, at Dodowa, Central University, Accra; Wisconsin International University (WIU), Accra, the Methodist University College, Accra; Islamic University College, Accra; and All Nations University, Koforidua. The association is aimed at establishing companies and to get some listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange; providing entrepreneurial skills to member students and other organisations; and offering platform for the coordination of students activities.

Mr Abeasi advised the students to work hard to achieve their academic objectives and to guard against tendencies that could affect their academic programmes.

Dr David Asante Dartey, Principal of WUI, advised the students to avoid confrontation and violence in the quest to solve problems.

Mr John Asamoah Kwarfo, Chief Executive of PUSAG, said the Association would assist students to establish businesses after completion of their courses. He appealed to government to support private Universities with funds since they are not profit making bodies. Mr. Kwarfo commended the president, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, for donating a bus and a pick up truck to the Presbyterian University College and appealed to him to extend the gesture to all the accredited private universities.
