Strengthen monitoring of NGOs activities - Rev. Adjei

Koforidua, Jan. 11, GNA - Reverend Samuel Adjei, National President of Christian Friends of Democracy (CFD), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), has called for improve system of monitoring the performance of NGOs in the country. He said such as system when put in place would separate credible NGOs from the "bad" ones for the necessary support to be given to those which deserved them. Rev. Adjei was speaking at an end-of-year party for members of the Christ Salkan Widows Foundation, a branch of CFD that provides care and support for widows, the aged and the under-privileged in Koforidua at the weekend. He said his organization had ran several programmes like HIV prevention in rural areas including food security programmes in schools in the Akuapem South Municipal Area and various peace promotion programmes in various parts of the country.

Rev. Adjei called on opinion leaders in the country to move away from paying lip services to the plight of the underprivileged. He told the under-privileged to consider themselves as equal members of the society and contribute their quota towards national development. The Project Director of CFD, Mrs Sarah Okantey, announced that the foundation was planning to establish a Recreational and Training Centre for widows and the aged in the society. She said this year the Foundation would organize more training programmes for members in bread making and batik tire and dye to enable them to establish their own businesses. Mrs Okantey said some of the members of the Foundation were over 85 years old and had lost all their children and therefore needed care and support. She said this year the Foundation would be extending its activities to rural areas around the Koforidua Municipality and to other districts in the Eastern Region. 11 Jan. 10
