Spain launches trade promotion with Ghana

The Ecotec Ghana Technological Ecology Limited, a multinational company through its partners Fish and Company in Spain, have launched a business project to establish a tuna factory in Ghana.

The project, aimed at creating a private sector growth, would also promote a sustainable tourism, generate employment and contribute to economic development of communities along the beaches.

Mr Juan Jose Puig Zarga, the Coordinating Director of Ecotec of Spain made this known when he led the Ecotec Ghana delegation to call on the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Madam Sherry Aryeetey to present their proposal to the Ministry.

Mr Zarga said Spain is one of the greatest fish hub in the world with expertise, adding: “It is the conviction that with the presentation of this proposal and technical team, you will consider bilateral and mutual relation of identifying yourself with Ecotec Ghana and Fish and Company.”

He said when he accessed the abuse of fishing with various implements, worsening poverty, most especially within the fishing communities, Ecotec Ghana’s cooperation with the Fisheries Ministry would tailor towards a clean environment along the coastal belt and provision of cold storage equipment.

“Potential areas for our cooperation is also the provision of modern laboratory equipment,” he stressed.

Mr Zarga said: “We are overwhelmed of the deepening of the private public partnership initiative policy by the government,” adding that “Ecotec Ghana, Fish and Company will explore and restore the potentiality and confidence in the fishing industry in Ghana to collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in this connection”.

Madam Aryeetey reiterated government’s commitment to help expand the fishing industry to meet the present and future needs of businesses in Ghana.

She said her Ministry is ready to support the tuna industry and asked the business executives to take advantage of the conducive atmosphere in Ghana to explore investment opportunities.

She noted that the initiative was a confirmation of the importance of the government’s contribution to the private sector in the country, particularly along the coastal lines, adding that, this would assist in the implementation of the Ministry’s strategic activities for the fisheries sector.

Madam Aryeetey said her Ministry is committed to change the trend by stepping up from the old method of fishing, hence the need for all businesses in the sector to position themselves well.

“Our vision is to provide innovative that offers in the fishing sector tremendous competitive advantage to meet their business needs,” she said.

She gave an assurance that the Fisheries Ministry would continue to work with Ecotec Ghana and Fish and Company in the private sector development, adding that “we will also cooperate with you in your priority areas”.

Mr Francis Adjetey Sowah, Chief Executive Officer of Ecotec Ghana, expressed gratitude to the Minister for the unique opportunity and expressed the hope that the relationship between his company and the Ministry would be deepened and strengthened to revamp the fishing industry in Ghana.
