Snub Alan & Nana Bring Bawumia

-group proposes
S
The animosity, confusion and infighting that rages on in the New Patriotic party (NPP) because of the race for the 2016 presidential candidate race, threatens the party’s unity and survival. Various groups have surfaced to pledge unflinching support for their candidates, and in the process have resorted to seriously attacking opponents with damaging allegations
Fuelling this unhealthy battle for supremacy and control of the soul of the party are supporters of Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan kyeremanteng who have taken entrenched positions to ensure their preferred choice ascends to the holy throne of the party for the 2016 elections by either fair or foul means.
The New Patriotic Party’s negative political trait of indiscipline and violence, bequeathed to them by their political tradition, the U (PP) has been put in motion by the selfish supporters to eliminate fellow contestants in the party’s selection for flag bearer for the 2016 elections.
A concerned group in the party is therefore proposing the automatic selection of a neutral candidate to save the party from collapse in the person of Dr Bawumia..
According to the group, who describe themselves Ordinary Members of the New Patriotic Party, the greed and selfish attitude being displayed by the Nana and Alan supporters will only land the party into another political disaster, which will result in unnecessary time wasting and litigation.
Among some of their major concerns are the way and manner the supporters are comporting themselves because their utterances rather arm their opponents instead of selling their preferred candidates.
The group stressed that they have learnt a bitter lesson concerning this sort of unnecessary waste of time and money, just like what happened in the Supreme Court case in which they challenged the legitimacy of President John Mahama winning the 2012 election, which they finally lost.
The group is therefore calling on the NEC and the National Council to call Nana, Alan and any party member who have the intention to contest in the upcoming congress to have a consensus on a single and most winnable candidate to save the party of some resources, energy and the tendencies of arming the opponents with our usual loose talks during our internal elections.
They are therefore of the view that in order to put an end to the internal wrangling between the two camps, which is threatening the unity in the party, it will serve the party much better to elect a neutral candidate, in the person of Dr. Bawumia to stand for the position, in order to save the party from breaking up into factions, and also give supporters the hope of their party coming to power come 2016.

Below is the full statement of the Group
PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PROPOSAL FROM THE ORDINARY MEMBERS OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY (OM-NPP)
We the Ordinary Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have over the days monitored the airwaves and have noticed some utterances and comportment of fellow patriots regarding the upcoming NPP National Delegates Congress. We have some observations, concerns and proposals to address.
OBSERVATIONS:
1. We have observed a high level of enthusiasm and hunger for power by our fellow patriots.
2. We have observed some highly irreparable damages and threat spilled out by fellow patriots especially the supporters of Nana Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng in their quest to sell their preferred candidates.
3. We have observed the psychology of the Ghanaian voters vis a viz Nana Addo’s candidature and also the views of the NPP delegates as far Alan Kyeremanteng is concerned.
4. We have accessed the chances of our party in the 2016 general elections; either maintaining or changing the face on the ballot paper.
5. We have observed how the fortunes of the party keeps dwindling from six regions to one and a half which we are even not sure of the half (Eastern Region) because 56 per cent is not that strong a grade in any serious competitive exam.
6. We have observed how strong the NPP would be going forward if certain critical decisions are taken like a bitter pill.

CONCERNS:

1. We are unhappy with the comportment of the supporters of these two major presidential hopefuls; Nana Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng .For us, their utterances seek to arm our opponents rather than selling their preferred candidates.
2. We can no longer behave like the ostrich; the level of unity in the party raises an eyebrow, all because these two strong men, the ‘Nana-Alan’ beat which is so louder than the NPP itself. People seem to love the coach more than the team, so what of if the Coach quits one day or is sacked by the board or for no obvious reason the Coach is nowhere to be found in not distant future? This poses serious threat to the foundation of the party we all cherish so much going forward.
3. We also think that some form of a queue seems to have been formed, and that one has to go before the other can come. Until that is done no movement, irrespective of one’s competence, ability, marketability, flaws or weakness. We are in the middle of a new generation of enthusiastic youth and their quest for change and therefore we in NPP must be conversant with the voices of the ordinary Ghanaian voters of this generation.

4. Again, notwithstanding the cheating by our competitors we are so much concerned about the downward trend of our party’s electoral fortunes from six regions, we can now win only one and a half regions. Western, Central, Brong Ahafo and the Greater Accra have all denied us their vote in the present time. Why?
PROPOSAL:
The NPP is at its critical and life support stage at the moment. The party has to be redeemed as a matter of urgency. We have been in opposition for thirty years before, we have eight years to deal with at the moment, and we cannot afford to go beyond that. We must at any positive means end it in 2016.
We urge the NEC and the National Council to call Nana, Alan and any party member who have the intention to contest in the upcoming congress to have a consensus on a single and most winnable candidate to save the party of some resources, energy and the tendencies of arming the opponents with our usual loose talks during our internal elections.
We are Democrats and we believe in internal democracy, But, at times in one’s life some hard decisions should be taken at the expense of democracy in the interest of all. For now it is the collective party’s interest first before personal presidential ambitions. This is a hard decision we must take to save the face of our beloved party come 2016.
We cannot afford to use Dr. Bawumia three times on a roll as Running Mate. We say so because he is no longer the 47 year old banker we knew in 2008. He is a full grown and a matured politician now. He would have graduated from apprenticeship by now if he were learning carpentry or bakery. One takes less than eight years to complete even tougher courses such as Medicine, Law, Engineering etc. We the Ordinary Members of the NPP suggest that the party present Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the sole and incontestable candidate for the 2016 general election.
Some of the reasons:
1. Dr. Bawumia is the neutral face NPP need to end Nana-Alan rift which has bedevilled the party for far too long. The end of Nana-Alan rift will strengthen the base of the party and bring back the unity we have been waiting for.
2. During the 2012 Election Petition Case where Dr. Bawumia was the star witness for the NPP, he gained the leverage and the respect any one would wish for. He is now known to be the fountain of knowledge and the affection thereof. This has made the name Bawumia a household name…’’Bawumia nie nimdie nie’’

3. It would be so much advantageous and easier for Chairman Afoko who hails from the north to introduce Dr Bawumia to the three northern regions than Chairman Afoko introducing Alan or Nana to the three northern regions and the Zongo communities. This strategy will mass up more votes than ever, hence defeating Mahama’s northern dominance.
4. We must again end President Mahama’s noise of his youthful advantage because Dr. Bawumia is much more youthful than Mahama. The truth is that every generation produces its own leaders and we believe Dr. is for this generation. We cannot continue to sing the song of ‘we are grooming him’ at the age of 54. This is the time we must milk the best in him and not 2020, 2024 or 2028 when he is weak and tiring. About 50 per cent of the electorates are youth and are in tune with Drs today’s youthful exuberance in the court room but not the memories of 1996 ‘ku me preko’ or 1992 Young Executive Forum. Bawuniah falls within the age bracket of elected presidents in many ambitious nations today (Obama of USA, David Cameron of UK…now Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine.
5. Just a week after the introduction of then Running Mate Amissa Arthur, a lot were spilled out about his personality but not an iota of such issue has been linked to Bawumia almost eight years as a running mate making him an impeccable personality worth presenting for any competitive election .This man is a gift from God for the NPP and our party should not overlook it.
6. Going by the precedence of Obama-Joe Biden Case in the United States of America with all the influence, connection, money and power of Joe Biding, he agreed to vice Obama in the interest of his party. If indeed it is in the interest of the party but not a mere personal presidential ambition that both Nana and Alan keep ranting then we suggest one of them should replicate Joe Biden example to vice Dr. Bawumia. This is because with Bawumia as the leader ,the party will not have the challenge of continuity in 2020 general election should we win or lose in 2016.The choice of either Nana or Alan to vice Bawumia would be dealt with by NEC and the National Council in consultation with the would-be presidential candidate ,Bawumia.
We cannot do the same thing the same way all the time and expect different results. We must vary the way we do things at some point in time as a party with ambitions. The youth and the Ghanaian people are suffering from bad governance and the only hope they have is the NPP. For once we must have the readiness and composure to capture power.
We urge NEC and the National Council to respond to these concerns and proposals as soon as possible.
Long live NPP!!!
Long live Ghana!!!
