Set in motion steps for appointment of new VC

Kumasi, Feb 23, GNA - A call has gone to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Council to set in motion modalities for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the university when Professor Kwesi Andam turns 60 years in December this year.

Mr Charles Appiah, a retired worker of the university who made the call, in Kumasi, regretted that preparations, which ought to have started the due process for the appointment of a successor to Professor Andam, had not even started.

In a statement headed "What is Causing KNUST's Delay to Appoint a New Vice-Chancellor", he said the first process of assembling a search committee and follow it up with invitation to interested candidates to submit their applications, curriculum vitae and other supporting documents had not been taken.

"Since no interviews can be conducted until the interested candidates have submitted their relevant documents for screening and the short listing done, what are the authorities responsible for the action waiting for", he queried.

Mr Appiah said the public would not like to think that misplaced priorities, miscalculation, and omission or commission to condone wrong to favour the current Vice-Chancellor were the remote causes.

He therefore called on Nana Otuo Sereboe II, Juabenhene and Chairman of the University Council to give directives to the appropriate quarters to set "the ball rolling."
