Security personnel flush out criminals at Aflao border

Aflao, Jan. 8, GNA - A team of Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), police and military personnel on Wednesday flushed out illegal currency dealers from the security zone of the Ghana-Togo border at Aflao.

A source told the GNA that the exercise was a broad plan to rid the border area of miscreants including pickpockets who harass travellers and traders.

No arrests were made as the currency dealers bolted on seeing the security personnel.

The source said the illegal currency dealers often cheated travellers and traders of their money by under-counting and adopting other tricks.

As part of the security exercise the area between the frontier and the Omnibus Services Authority (OSA) terminal, where a new gate had been erected would be put under observation to check the operations of criminals who mingle with travellers to steal their items.

Vehicular movement in the area would also be controlled to eliminate the congestion around the border.
