Secretary General vacant position in contest

Accra, June 7, GNA - Mr. Prince William Ankrah, General Secretary of the Ghana Mines Workers Union (GMWU), on Friday expressed his intention to contest for the position of Secretary General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The position became vacant following the appointment of Mr. Kwasi Adu-Amkankwah as the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Federation Africa, in Nairobi Kenya. Disclosing his intension to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr. Ankrah said he would file for the contest in August this year.

Mr. Ankrah, trained at the Ruskin College, Oxford, UK in Labour Studies, did his Masters programme in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at the University of Warwick Business School, United Kingdom and he is also a Charted Resource practitioner. He is trained in International Lawyering at the George Washington University of USA and Oxford University respectively. Mr. Ankrah is currently pursuing a part-time doctorate degree in Organization Development at the University of Cape Coast, having been a trade unionist for the past 21 years, dealing with different multinational companies.

He had been one of the selected lecturers from the TUC to collaborate with the University of Cape Coast in the running a Certificate and Diploma courses for trade union cadres. Mr Ankrah said he was of the view that, the labour movement requires a new impetus aimed at making it relevant to the working class of the country adding, "I will soon launch my vision for the TUC." 07 June 06
