Science resource centres to be revamped - Minister

Ekumfi Essakyire, (C/R), Dec 21, GNA - The government has taken steps to revamp Science Resource Centers it established in 1990 in senior high schools to enhance effective teaching and learning of the subject. To achieve the objective the government has made adequate budgetary allocation to run training workshops for science teachers to enable less endowed senior high schools to use the facilities.

Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, said this at the 37th Speec= h and Prize-Giving Day of the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School at Ekumfi Essakyire in the Mfantseman Municipal on Saturday. He said the Ministry of Education was doing every thing possible to ensure that learning of science and technology became easy for students i= n senior high schools.

Mr Tettey-Enyo said government was pursuing pragmatic policies that would enhance quality education at all levels and that the policy would n= eed support from individuals and other stakeholders to ensure its success. He said the Ministry of Education would not hesitate to dismiss outrig= ht any student who would misconduct himself or herself. Mr Tettey-Enyo said the Ministry had made budgetary allocation for the=

construction of 12 classrooms and to re-roof structures at the school. Prof F.K. A. Allottey, a mathematician of international repute, said Gh= ana was endowed with abundant natural resources but its greatest need was the=

manpower to turn them over. Prof. Allotey urged compatriots from Ekumfiman in the government and outside to assist the infrastructural development of the school. Mr Dimbie Mumuni Issah, Headmaster of the school, said the school lacke= d many facilities and this was hampering effective teaching and learning. He mentioned lack of a science laboratory, insufficient accommodation for teaching staff, classrooms, transportation and dormitories as some of the=

problems facing the school.
