Savelugu-Nanton District Executive Projects 720.6mC Budget

Savelugu (N/R), - 11 June

The Savelugu-Nanton District Assembly has this year projected a development budget of 720.6 million cedis to improve education, health, roads and other development interventions. About 123.2 million cedis is to be spent on the provision of accommodation for the staff of the decentralised departments and the renovation of schools, 134.8 million cedis on rural electrification projects, 51 million cedis on health and five million cedis on the rehabilitation of feeder roads. Alhaji Ibrahim Sherif, the District Chief Executive who announced this during the third ordinary session of the assembly at Savelugu yesterday, said at the close of the1996 financial year, the assembly had spent 472.1 million cedis of its share of the district assemblies common fund on such development projects. He said the introduction of the district assemblies' common fund was an important turning point in the history of the country, adding that ''For our district it has no doubt brought with it a positive change in the socio-economic situation of our people.'' He commended communities who are contributing their widows mite towards the provision of social amenities and utility services and reaffirmed the commitment of the assembly to complement their efforts.
