Former Black Stars defender Shilla Illiasu has expressed his disappointment to see Russia host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Illiasu is not in support of FIFA’s decision to hand the hosting rights to the European country following the high level of racism in the country.

The former Asante Kotoko center-back faced several racial abuses during his time with Russia Premier League side FC Saturn.

The former King Fasial defender in an interview with Starr FM says he is disappointed in FIFA’s decision to hand the hosting rights to Russia.

“Racism in that country is a canker. I was there for 3 years and it was not easy,” he said.

“I was very disappointed when I heard Russia was going to host the World Cup.”

“I am not part of the decision making unite of FIFA but as a player I was very disappointed because of what I saw there.”

Ghana international Emmanuel Frimpong was recently handed a two match ban after reacting to a racial abuse on him while in action for his Club Ufa in a League match against Spartak Moscow.
