Road Minister answers questions in Parliament

Accra, Oct 28, GNA - Dr Richard Anane, the Minister of Road Transport, on Friday said the Sekyedumase to Anyinasu road in the Ashanti Region was being surfaced dressed in phases with the first phase under a contract sum of five billion cedis.

He said the contractor working on the first phase was given notice of termination of contract in August due to delays.

Dr Anane, who was responding to a question on when the road would be tarred, said after the notice was served to the contractor he has "remobilised to site and concrete works are now in progress. The percentage of works completed to date is 20 per cent."

He said the contractor has been instructed to submit a programme to enable the works to be completed by the end of February next year. In response to another question on when the road from Ejura to Nkoranza will be tarred, the Minister said the road was also being surface dressed.

He said the 51-kilometre road formed part of the Ejura-Nkoranza-Techiman inter-regional road in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.

Dr Anane said a contract had been awarded for re-gravelling of the road at a cost of 21.5 billion cedis. He said in view of the strategic nature of the road in agriculture, the government decided to have the entire stretch of road tarred. He said a supplementary contract for the tarring of the road has been awarded at an additional sum of 40.4 billion cedis.
